A Scandinavian-chic House Spa

The perfect spa day can be found at The House Spa, Dormy House

Languishing in a field of English lavender is how you feel when relaxing in the sauna at the exquisite new spa at Dormy House in The Cotswolds.

As the name suggests, The House Spa at Dormy, aptly nestles on the boundary of a golf club on the top Snowshill not far from the picturesque village of Broadway.

For those spa-goers not familiar with golf, the name Dormy means a player ahead by a specific number of holes with same number of holes due to be played – and this equilibrium is the ideal parallel to how I felt after leaving my spa day.

The honey-stoned thatched cottages, make way for the lavender and poppy fields as I venture to the spa hotel which has now been opened for more than a year and has quickly established its position as one of the best in the Cotswolds.

And it’s not hard to see why, when you arrive at the light, airy reception area and are shown to The Greenhouse on the day I arrived there was a chill in the air but this was soon melted away by the glow of the log burner reminiscent of a Scandinavian chalet.

Prior, to my treatment I explored the exquisite spa area which has a pool big enough to swim in (not always the case) with outside sun-trap area along with a lavender steam room which helped me to relax and unwind.

My facial, called intoxicatingly Totally Quenched and Drenched, was just what my dry skin needed. The Temple Spa treatment combines powerful antioxidants to leave the skin deeply hydrated and helped eliminate those fine lines.

Lucy, my therapist has honed her massage techniques thanks to the expertise of  healer and writer Beata Aleksandrowicz  who has dedicated the last 17 years to educate people on the importance of touch, massage and spiritual growth.

For those lucky enough to be indulging in a full spa day (which are available from Monday to Thursday’s) one of the most popular choices is the signature Silent Night Lavender Sleep Treatment.

As travelling and daily stress can interfere with sleep patterns this treatment aims to restore the body’s natural bio-rythms and relax the nervous system.

And what better place than succumb to the soothing and relaxing effects of lavender than in the tranquil surroundings of Dormy House?

Silent Night starts with a gently uplifting brushing with carbon gloves and then Temple Spa’s Warm Drift Away oils, which contains lavender and camomile, is buffed into the skin and as they become heat up coax the body to rebooting depleted energy.

A facial pressure-point and hour-long back massage promises to leave you “re-calibrated” – it is recommended you do not use the thermal cabins after this treatment.

If you don’t have time for a full spa day why not try the House Owl half-day package which includes a one hour spa treatment (up to the value of £85) plus 30-minute manicure or pedicure and glass of Veuve Clicquot and use of spa facilities for five hours. The products ranges used are Temple Spa and Natura Bisse.

As I drove away through the lanes of dappled light I could not think of a better way to spend my day…as the saying goes at Dormy; “walk in Float out” which I certainly did.
