Why choose Amanpuri?

Amanpuri is best suited to travellers who want wellness to be tailored rather than standardised. A stay can be as simple as massage, movement and recovery around a beach holiday, or it can become a structured multi-night programme involving nutrition, specialist consultations and medical diagnostics.

The privacy of the resort is part of the proposition. Wellness sessions take place within a low-key environment removed from Phuket’s busier resort areas, while the treatment centre and Spa House allow guests to choose between shared resort wellness and very private therapeutic time.

The 12-room Holistic Wellness Centre

Each of the current 12 treatment rooms has its own shower, restroom and dressing area, allowing treatments to feel self-contained rather than rushed through a shared changing environment. Treatments can be booked individually or as a couple and span massage, beauty, recovery and holistic therapies.

The scale is substantial enough to support longer programmes without the centre feeling clinical. This matters at a resort where guests may be combining daily treatment, movement and consultations over several nights.

Hydrotherapy, sauna and steam

The wellness centre includes steam and infrared sauna facilities as part of the wider hydrotherapy offer. Current Aman material also references cold-plunge and jacuzzi elements within its wellness infrastructure, particularly within the dedicated Spa House.

Heat and cold should be used conservatively. The Spa Traveller recommends gradual exposure, good hydration and proper rest between sessions. Guests with cardiovascular, circulatory, pregnancy or other relevant health considerations should discuss suitability before using intensive heat or cold.

The private Spa House

The Spa House is one of Amanpuri’s most distinctive wellness options. It is designed for private use by up to two guests and includes a Vichy shower, Banya sauna, infrared sauna, steam rooms, indoor jacuzzi, outdoor lounging deck, private swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi.

Half-day programmes typically run for around four hours and can combine hydrotherapy with Vichy treatment, body scrub and massage. Full-day formats extend to around six hours and may add a longer signature massage and a dedicated spa lunch.

This is particularly appealing for couples or guests who want the wellness day to remain completely private rather than moving through a communal thermal circuit.

Original Wellness Immersions

Amanpuri’s Original Wellness Immersions run for a minimum of three nights. They are personalised around goals such as fitness, stress management, weight management and overall reset, combining nutrition plans, movement, specialised therapies and spa treatments.

The important distinction is that Original Immersions do not include the full medical-diagnostics component of the resort’s more intensive programmes. This makes them better suited to guests who want structured wellness without turning the stay into a medical programme.

Intensive Wellness Immersions

Intensive Wellness Immersions begin at a minimum of five nights and can incorporate medical consultations, diagnostics and medically supported interventions alongside movement, nutrition and treatment.

This is where careful pre-booking matters. Ask what testing is included, which doctors or specialists are involved, what results you will receive, how recommendations are explained and whether any follow-up is provided after departure. The Spa Traveller treats this as medical-wellness support rather than conventional spa treatment.

Performance and recovery

Amanpuri also offers performance and recovery-focused programmes that can combine physiotherapy, personalised movement, compression boots, cryotherapy, acupuncture, IV therapy, hydrotherapy and massage, depending on the itinerary and clinical suitability.

These services sit at the more advanced end of wellness travel. They should be used with the same due diligence applied to any specialist health intervention: understand why the therapy is being suggested, who delivers it, what evidence supports the intended outcome and what contraindications apply.

Sea-view gym and personal training

The glass-walled gym sits at one of the higher points of the resort and looks out towards the sea. Personal trainers can provide one-to-one or small-group sessions, while the broader fitness menu includes high-intensity training, TRX, beach bootcamp and other formats.

The advantage is flexibility. Guests can train seriously, maintain a normal routine or use movement simply as a supporting part of a wellness immersion.

Pilates, yoga and Muay Thai

Dedicated Pilates and yoga studios allow for private or guided movement, while the Muay Thai boxing ring gives Amanpuri a stronger performance identity than a conventional luxury spa.

For active guests, these sessions can work particularly well when paired with hydrotherapy or massage later in the day. Avoid stacking intense boxing, strength training and deep tissue treatment too closely together if your goal is recovery rather than fatigue.

Tennis and outdoor movement

The resort has four floodlit tennis courts with lessons available, giving guests another route into movement-led wellness. Amanpuri also offers beach-based training and outdoor sessions, allowing the natural setting to become part of the fitness programme rather than confining everything to the gym.

Swimming

Current Aman material lists a large freshwater main pool and a separate 20-metre lap pool, in addition to private pool access within the Spa House. The lap pool is particularly useful for guests who want structured exercise rather than only recreational bathing.

Swimming can be a useful lower-impact option on recovery days or between more demanding fitness sessions.

Doctors, physiotherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Amanpuri can arrange consultations with doctors, physiotherapists and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners depending on the programme. Nutrition and lifestyle coaching can also form part of a personalised immersion.

If a particular specialist is the main reason for travelling, confirm their availability and credentials before paying for the trip. Visiting practitioners and programme components can vary, and a wellness itinerary is only as useful as the expertise behind it.

Nutrition

Personalised nutrition is integrated into the Wellness Immersions rather than offered as a generic “healthy menu”. Programmes can include structured meal plans and dietary guidance around individual goals.

Guests with diagnosed conditions, allergies, eating disorders or medically prescribed diets should make these clear before arrival. A luxury wellness programme should work alongside appropriate healthcare, not replace it.

Mindfulness and stress management

Mindfulness coaching and meditation are led by in-house specialists and can be combined with yoga, spa therapies and quieter time around the resort. For stressed professionals and guests seeking a reset, these elements may be more relevant than adding another physical treatment.

The best programmes are not necessarily the busiest. Leave enough unstructured time for sleep, beach walks and genuine downtime rather than filling every hour with an appointment.

Who will enjoy it most?

  • Privacy-focused travellers: the Spa House and resort setting support very private wellness time.
  • Fitness and performance guests: Muay Thai, Pilates, tennis, gym, physiotherapy and recovery services provide real depth.
  • Longer-stay wellness travellers: multi-night Immersions allow personalised structure.
  • Couples: private Spa House programmes and shared treatments are particularly compelling.
  • Guests interested in medical wellness: the Intensive Immersions add diagnostics and specialist consultations.

How long should you stay?

For a spa-led holiday, two or three nights may be enough to use the treatment centre and movement facilities. For an Original Wellness Immersion, Amanpuri starts from three nights; Intensive Immersions begin at five nights.

The right duration depends on your objective. Ask what additional value each extra night adds in terms of consultation, treatment, testing or follow-up rather than automatically booking the longest programme.

How to plan a better stay

Request a sample itinerary before booking, confirm which treatments and consultations are included and identify any specialist services that carry additional charges. If the Spa House is a priority, reserve it early because private capacity is naturally limited.

Disclose relevant medical conditions honestly, especially if cold exposure, IV therapy, cryotherapy or medically supported treatments are being considered. Wellness travel works best when the programme is matched to the guest rather than when guests try to complete every available intervention.

The Spa Traveller view

Amanpuri stands out because it can operate at several levels without losing its resort character. It can be a beautiful Phuket spa stay, a serious fitness-and-recovery retreat, or a more intensive medical-wellness programme. The combination of privacy, movement, hydrotherapy, specialist expertise and personalised Immersions makes it particularly well suited to travellers who want wellness to be intentional but do not want to feel as though they are staying in a clinic.
